Ingredients
For the Gulab Jamun:
- 1 cup milk powder
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 tsp baking soda
- 2 tbsp ghee (clarified butter)
- 1/4 cup milk (adjust as needed)
- Ghee or oil for frying
For the Honey Syrup
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup Shafia Honey
- 1/2 tsp cardamom powder
- A few strands of saffron (optional)
- Rose water (optional, to taste)
Method
1. Prepare the Honey Syrup:
- In a saucepan, combine 1 cup of water and 1 cup of Shafia Honey.
- Add cardamom powder and saffron strands (if using).
- Bring the mixture to a boil, then let it simmer for 5-7 minutes.
- Add a few drops of rose water if desired. Keep the syrup warm.
2. Prepare the Gulab Jamun Dough:
- In a mixing bowl, combine milk powder, all-purpose flour, and baking soda.
- Add ghee and mix well until the mixture becomes crumbly.
- Gradually add milk and knead the dough until it is smooth and soft. The dough should be slightly sticky but manageable.
- Cover the dough and let it rest for 10 minutes.
3. Shape the Gulab Jamun:
- Divide the dough into small portions and roll them into smooth balls. Ensure there are no cracks on the surface.
- Heat ghee or oil in a deep frying pan over medium-low heat. The oil should be moderately hot.
4. Fry the Gulab Jamun:
- Gently slide the dough balls into the hot oil. Fry them on low heat, stirring occasionally to ensure even cooking.
- Fry until the gulab jamuns are golden brown. This may take about 7-10 minutes.
- Remove the fried gulab jamuns and drain them on paper towels.
5. Soak in Honey Syrup:
- Place the warm gulab jamuns into the warm honey syrup.
- Let them soak for at least 1 hour before serving. The gulab jamuns will absorb the syrup and become soft and juicy.
